The All India University Employees Confederation (AIUEC) has given a call to observe Protest Day on November 6 (Wednesday) in 180 universities in 26 States, informed AIUEC president and former MP Bhabani Hota in a release on Monday.
“We will oppose the Draft New Education Policy, 2019 as, once implemented , it would result in more privatisation, inviting foreign universities and total centralization, to the detriment of equitable growth of both school and university education,” said Hota.
The provision for downgrading University Grants Commission (UGC) and withdrawal of NAAC from it would not augur well, he said.
The provision of creating new universities will not be the sole privileges of National Parliament and or State Assemblies as a Charter issued by the National Higher Education Regulatory Authority (NHERA) can establish university or institutions of higher education, he pointed out.
The demands include scrapping of NEP 2019 and representation of employees in decision making bodies of the universities, regularisation of casual employees and filling up of vacant posts, said he.
