Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has asked universities to conduct researches on current issues like demonetisation and new economy in India.
Javadekar said universities and colleges need to go for researches on the issues affecting people which would help the country in making plans and programmes.
Reviewing education sector in Odisha here on 15 April, he said while demonetisation has ushered in a new economy with people getting adapted to a cashless system, such economic reforms should be studied and researched in details.
Higher Education Secretary GVV Sharma, School and Mass Education Secretary Ranjan Chopra, Utkal University Vice Chancellor AK Das, Ramadevi Women University Vice Chancellor Padmaja Mishra, IIT Bhubaneswar Director RV Raja Kumar were present, among others.
Javadekar said teachers having interest in research should be supported to conduct researches and those interested in teaching should be allowed to do so for better results.
Taking up both research and teaching by a single person will not be fruitful in the long run, he pointed out. He responded positively to suggestions that action oriented research need to be recognized as “Research” experience.
Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Prof Das said the teachers are undertaking action oriented research taken up by NSSO on nutrition and several other issues. However, such research experiences are not counted as “Research”, said Prof Das.
To this, Javadekar said the MHRD would look into the matter. In fact, foreign universities are going researches on practical and current issues and results of such research are benefitting the people at large. Our universities and colleges should do so for benefit of people, said Javadekar.
