In a development that will improve quality of higher education in the State, Government-run universities and colleges across the State will be Wi-Fi-enabled by March. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting organised recently by the Higher Education Department under the chairmanship of Secretary Gagan Kumar Dhal.

With this, seven universities, 46 colleges and all autonomous universities funded by the State Government will avail Wi-Fi facilities from the next academic session, where students would have access to e-library, smart classroom and smart campus services. The BSNl has been entrusted with the task to execute the project and has been asked to submit a detal project report (DPR) following which the campuses would be made Wi-Fi enabled by March this year, said Higher Education Department additional secretary Ajay Nayak.

In the subsequent phases, the facility will be rolled out to other colleges and varsities in the State. Besides, emphasis would be given on Government-aided colleges, unaided colleges and residential colleges to be included in the Wi-Fi campus initiative.
