Unidentified miscreants looted valuables worth Rs 3 lakh by breaking the window of an engineer’s car near the Regional Passport Office at Neelakantha Nagar under the Nayapalli police station here on Wednesday.
Sources said that an engineer and his family members from the Nimapara area in Puri district had come to the passport office in the morning for verification of his son’s passport.
The engineer reportedly went inside the Passport Office along with his wife and son while his brother stayed back in their car. Later when he went to some distance after parking and locking the car near the Passport Office, the miscreants looted gold jewellery, a mobile phone and an ATM card by breaking the car window.
The engineer lodged an FIR with the Nayapalli police, based on which police initiated an investigation. Police rounded up and grilling some people, who were present at the spot when the loot took place. Police are also verifying the CCTV footages of the control room to identify the looters.
