VAl urged not to shut down K'handi unit

locals of Ambadola led by ZillaParishad (Muniguda A) Subash Majhi and Sarapanch K Majhi submitted a  memorandum to Vedanta COO KK Dave and expressed that they would go back to the old days of poverty, ill-health and lack of infrastructure in case the plant is closed down. All the developmental works by the company would be hampered drastically, they said.

Dave said that in absence of bauxite security from within the State and because of the global aluminium market turmoil, the company is compelled to start the process of gradual closure. The unit is currently operating with a daily loss of Rs 3 crore which is unviable, he added.

Zilla Parishad Member (Muniguda A) Majhi said if the plant will be closed then the future of 800 students studying in DAV Vedanta School will be in dark. Besides, locals will no more avail free health service in the Vedanta-run hospital.

Sarapanch Majhi urged the intervention of the Government for ensuringraw material to the plant.

Notably, VAl had announced its decision to gradually shut down its refinery plant at lanjigarh in Kalahandi because of raw material shortage and fall in aluminium price globally.
