Even as the ‘Tika Utsav’, a four-day-long mega vaccination drive against Covid-19 began in the country on Sunday, as many as 900 centres ran out of vaccine doses in Odisha.
The ongoing Covid-19 vaccination in the State would be hampered and might be stopped if fresh stocks of vaccines are not supplied by Monday, said Health Department Director Bijay Panigrahi
“The massive vaccination drive has almost come to a halt in the State due to the shortage of vaccines. The vaccination process is currently being carried out in 579 centres in various districts which have vaccine stocks. Most of the districts have no vaccine stocks. If fresh stocks of vaccines are not supplied by tomorrow, the process will be hampered in almost all the districts,” said Panigrahi.
Priority is being given to the districts which have reported the most positive cases.
Currently, the State has stocks of 2,33,000 doses of Covishield vaccines and 77,960 doses of Covaxin. The vaccination drive would continue in the districts which have vaccine stock, said Panigrahi.
