Vacancies hit execution of labour schemes

Published on:

Many beneficial schemes of the State labour Department seem to end in fiasco because of lack of employees and erroneous decisions.

For successful implementation of public beneficial schemes, officers in the ranks of District labour Commissioner (DlC) to Rural labour Inspector (RlI) have been appointed. Sources said the State head office of the labour Department have no clerks in proportion to officers as a result of which many schemes have not been properly implemented and, thus, beneficiaries are not receiving benefits.

It is also learnt that the Mandarins of the department are not paying any heed to the complaints of DlCs seeking adequate number of clerical hands for successful implementation of popular schemes of the Government.

Sources said the department surrendered 110 clerk posts for creation of 30 officer posts. Similar attempts are now also being made by some officers to influence the Finance Department for surrendering more clerk posts for creation of officer posts, said a retired bureaucrat who had work in the lobour Department.

“Such a policy adopted by the labour Department lacks foresight and insight and is intended to robbing Peter while paying Paul.

Now, the department has 20 per cent vacancy in officer (DlC, AlC, DlO, AlO, RlI) posts with 190 officers in position against sanctioned strength of 243 and 68 per cent of clerical posts (Junior Clerk, Steno, Typist) lying vacant with 65 in position against sanctioned strength of 154.

Similarly out of 14 other office posts three are lying vacant and, out of 203 Statistical Assistant, Assistant Typist and Diarist posts, 131posts, accounting for 65%, are vacant.
