An under-trial prisoner (UTP) died due to illness at the Parlakhemndi Sub-Jail in Gajapati district on Monday.
A resident of Haryana, Jaypal Singh was found in an unconscious condition by the jail staffs and was immediately taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead, Jail Superintendent Hanu Sethy said. The reason of his death was yet to be ascertained. He was lodged in the sub-jail after being arrested in a ganja smuggling case on October 16.
Singh was among six who were arrested by police for smuggling of around 160 kg contraband to Haryana from the Shikulipadar area of Paralakhemundi.
