The Utkal University authorities on Monday decided to hold Students’ Union elections in the university this year, but with a condition, after a gap of two years.
A decision to this effect was taken at the Post Graduate (PG) Council meeting which was held under the guidance of its chairman Gopal Krushna Panda. However, the council put a condition that if any disturbance takes place in the campus before September 29, the day of polls then the elections would be cancelled.
“The PG Council decided to hold union elections after examining the circumstances prevailing in the university since last few days. The elections would be conducted as per the guidelines of the lyngdoh Commission,” Panda added.
Meanwhile, banners and posters have started coming up outside the university gate. Police have also continued with its patrolling in the campus to maintain peace.
