Utkal Bharat to move HC over BJD Hartal

The Utkal Bharat on Sunday said it would move the Odisha High Court against the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for indulging in violence and creating law and order situation like forcible blocking of roads, closure of Government offices and attacking vehicles during the observance of a 12-hour State wide Hartal on April 26.

“Though the BJD had declared to observe a peaceful Hartal, BJD workers were seen holding party flags and sticks in hands forcibly blocking roads and attacking vehicles and its owners in various parts of the State. Many BJD MlAs were also seen sitting on roads disrupting vehicular movements,” alleged Utkal Bharat president MA Kharbela Swain here at a Press conference.

Due to this virtual ‘bandh’, the State suffered loss of Rs 1,000 crore, said Swain, adding that his party would also seek compensation for this from the BJD and the State Government. BJD workers forcibly closed down banks, schools and even courts, alleged Swain.

“While the BJD and the State Government in their affidavits submitted to the High Court had informed the Hartal would be observed peacefully but on April 26 it proved wrong, which amounts to contempt of court,” said Swain.

“We are now collecting photographs and clippings of forcible acts of BJD activists as proofs and would move the court this week,” informed Swain.
