With an aim to make unemployed rural women self-sufficient and enable them to earn a sustainable livelihood through garment production, the Utkal Alumina has opened a garment manufacturing unit at Tikiri in Rayagada district. Hindalco Chief People Officer Vineet Kaul and Utkal Alumina Unit head Vijay Sapra jointly inaugurated the Project on February 12. The company has already imparted tailoring training to 60 underprivileged women in its periphery areas. Of the 60 women, 30 came forward to get them inducted into the Advanced Training-cum-Garments Manufacturing Project to enhance their skills and earn livelihood. Around Rs33 lakh have been invested in the project. Different products, including various women’s wear and school and institutional uniforms will be manufactured at the unit.
