The Freethought Party of India (FPI) on Sunday demanded that the Union Government should immediately withdraw the decision to hike salaries of college and university teachers announced on October 11, 2017.
The huge amount of Rs 9,800 crore, which has been earmarked for university and college teachers, should be diverted to open prayer-less quality English medium schools and quality family planning centres at the gram panchayat level in rural areas and at the slums in urban areas so as to eliminate the phenomenon of the marriage of minor girls throughout the nation, urged FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire in a Statement.
“It is a matter of shame that India, after 70 years of Independence, is still continuing to be a backward country with casteism, superstition corrupt and unethical practices prevailing all over. This is because “timidity” of teachers from the level of primary schools to the level of the universities and all other centres of higher education,” said Voltaire.
He said teachers have failed to wide out blind beliefs and, hence, salaries should not be hiked rather the huge amount of Rs 9,800 should be spent for establishment English medium schools and checking child marriages.
