Use of Odia: 1 lakh letters to be sent to Chief Minister

The Bhasha Suraksha Sammilani (BSS), an organisation working for the promotion of Odia language, would send one lakh letters to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding use of Odia language for official purposes.

This was decided by members of the Sammilani at a State-level meeting organised here on Sunday. BSS sources said they have already sent blank postcards printed with the Chief Minister’s address on it to district committees for the purpose. The BSS State Committee along with its district units would sensitise people about the issue and persuade them to write letters to the Chief Minister urging implementation of the Orissa Official languages Act, 1954 in letter and spirit.

BSS convener Baisnab Parida said the BSS would organise a convention in Bhubaneswar before the next Assembly session to mount pressure on the Government to implement the Act. Around 5,000 people including writers, litterateurs, intellectuals and students would attend it, Parida added.
