The Utkal Sammilani demanded use of Odia language in law courts at a meeting held at its head office here on Sunday. A committee has been formed by the Sammilani to strive for use of Odia in courts. Its convener Bichitra Kumar Badajena chaired the meeting.

“We should take the views of the lawyers of different associations of the State and of the Utkal Sammilani members on the issue by conducting seminars and workshops,” Mancheswar Industrial Branch president Dillip Dashsharma proposed at the meet.

A workshop in this regard would be conducted on August 21. Utkal Sammilani vice-president Anant Prasad Jena said that if Odia language is used in courts, the general people can understand the court proceedings easily. They usually sign on documents without any knowledge, he added.

Akuli Sangram Sethi and Adaitya Kumar Patra were present, among others.
