Use Odia as official language in letter and spirit

A day after the Union Cabinet approved the proposal to accord classical status to the Odia language, the Sastriya Odia Kriyaanustan Committee president and outgoing Rajya Sabha Congress member Rama Chandra Khuntia, who had taken up the issue with the Centre, on Friday urged the State Government to ensure use of Odia at all national and State-level competitive examinations and offices in State without any further delay.

“We have been demanding use of Odia as official language at all Government offices and courts except in the High Court, health reports and doctors’ prescriptions, besides demanding inclusion of Odia language as a medium in the All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test,” said Khuntia in a Press release.

Khuntia said, “The State’s sincere effort is necessary for promotion and propagation of its mother tongue. The Committee will stage demonstration across the State if the State Government fails to take measures in giving due status to its mother tongue.”
