The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela local Centre here observed the World Environment Day on Friday last. After a brief introduction on the theme ‘Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Consume with Care’, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) Environmental Engineering Department AGM PC Das said the theme aims at raising people’s awareness about their own patterns of consumption with an idea of changing people’s behaviour and encouraging them to lead more sustainable lifestyles.
Citing examples, Das said people can reduce their carbon footprints, water use, support enhanced biodiversity and minimise the amount of waste they are responsible for. He suggested several steps that can be taken at individual level to reduce wealth depletion. His words of wisdom were ‘Use less, save more and let us go green together’. The presentation was followed by a discussion on environmental issues focusing on the central theme. IEI Centre Secretary Prof M Panda also spoke.
