A one-day seminar on ‘Crumbling Konark: Its conservation & recreation’ was held here. Organised by the Konark Suraksha Samiti (KSS) in collaboration with INTACH (Odisha Chapter), the seminar was inaugurated by INTACH State convener Amiya Bhusan Tripathy.

While structural engineer NC Pal gave a detailed report of the state of affairs of the temple structure and the scientific methods that have to be adopted to protect the structure, eminent people from the field of archaeology, history, culture, engineering and geography attended the seminar and presented their papers. Members from Saraikela too attended the seminar.

The seminar urged the authorities to remove the sand inside the Jagmohan by various committees.

The Samiti also felicitated eminent sculptor Padma Vibhusan Raghunath Mohapatro on the occasion.

“The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) should adopt latest chemical treatment methods for the conservation, besides forming a full time special qualified task force for the conservation of the temple and construction of a replica of the original temple in its grand original form near the original temple,” said Samiti general secretary Anil Dhir.
