The State Government is all set to implement the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), from September this year which will run parallel to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
This was informed by Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra after attending a review meeting convened by the Union Government in New Delhi on Monday.
The new programme would address communicable and non-communicable diseases, especially State-specific diseases such as sickle-cell and flurosis, besides reproductive and child health, sources said. “The scheme will be implemented from September 2013 as a submission under the NRHM. The mission will be implemented in 779 cities and towns including all the district headquarters and urban areas each with a population of more than 50,000,” informed Mohapatra.
The NUHM aims to improve health status of urban population by facilitating equitable access to quality healthcare through a revamped primary public health care system, targeted outreach services and involvement of the community and urban local bodies.
As per the provision, the Centre would fund 75 per cent and the State would share the remaining 25 per cent for the mission.
