Due to unavailability of required infrastructure at existing railway rakes and adequate numbers of two-point rakes, supply and distribution of fertilisers has been affected severely in Baleswar and other parts of the State.
Raising this issue in the Parliament, MP Rabindra Kumar Jena lamented that the rake points of Baleswar and Rupsa in his constituency have no platforms, cover shed and insufficient godowns.
While the State has made all efforts to increase output of high yielding and hybrid varieties of crops, enhanced consumption level of fertilisers, both chemical and organic, becomes a need, pointed out Jena.
Stating that the per-hectare consumption of fertiliser in Odisha stands at 60.43 kg, much lower than national average of 165 kg, he urged the Central Government to build the necessary infrastructure which would help enhance the State’s agricultural productivity.
