Unrest continues in Cuttack BOSE campus

After vandalising their campus on Wednesday, students of the Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering (BOSE) here gheraoed the office of the city DCP on Thursday demanding immediate arrest of their absconding demonstrator, who has been booked on sexual harassment allegations.  “We have registered a case against the accused and launched a massive manhunt to nab him,” said city DCP Sanjiv Arora, adding that a special squad of the city police is on the job.

Meanwhile, the school authorities have closed the institution for two days as tension prevailed in the campus for the second consecutive day. A group of students had gone on rampage, damaging the office and workshops alleging that the school authorities were giving protection to the demonstrator who had made sexual advances to a first year girl student. Soon after getting a complaint from the victim, the school authorities had immediately placed the demonstrator under suspension pending an inquiry. But the mechanical laboratory demonstrator went underground and is still incommunicado, sources said.

Blaming the school authorities for not acting swiftly and allowing the accused demonstrator to go underground, the students have now turned their ire against Principal PK Mohanty. “We want the principal transferred and the accused demonstrator arrested immediately,” cried the students while demonstrating in front of the office of the DCP.
