Union Min urged for better BSNl infra in Ganjam

Senior BJP leader Rama Chandra Panda submitted a memorandum to Union Minister for Communication, IT, law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi this week demanding improvement in the BSNl infrastructure to improve mobile network service in the city.

In his memorandum, Panda said that due to lack of proper infrastructure and poor networking system, the cell phone customers of Brahmapur division in Ganjam district are facing a lot of problems.

Mention may be made that, during UPA Government, Panda had approached the permanent lok Adalat by filing case. The Government then had assured to install a new GCM for permanent solution of the problems of Brahmapur Division like, fluctuation and congestion of the mobile network, poor networking and signaling system in Berhampur City in particular and Ganjam district in general, but in vain. The directives of the lok Adalat are yet to be honored by the Government, the memorandum alleged.

Panda mentioned further that, even though his house is located within a radius of hardly within 300 meters from the main Telephone Bhavan of the city (GM’s Office) still his mobile does not catch signals causing frequent disconnection during talking or messaging. Though he has brought this to the notice of the concerned authorities, including CMD of the BSNl, his letter neither has been acknowledged nor are the problems addressed to, the memorandum alleged.

Panda said that the service provided by the private telecom operators with less infrastructure and manpower are able to deliver better service to the consumers compared to BSNl which needs introspection.

He urged upon the Union Minister for appropriate remedial action.

He further pointed out that, parts of Ganjam district and adjacent Gajapati district are extremist infected regions. However, the Brahmapur telecom district, under which the two districts are covered, there is acute shortage of officers. In order to protect BSNl as the model and ideal service provider or institution of public interest, the Ministry needs to review the existing problems confronted by the consumers for remedial action, he said.

Minister Prasad reportedly assured Panda to look into the matter soon.
