Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey christened two lion and tiger cubs at the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) near here on Sunday.
During his visit to the zoo, he named the cub of lioness Bijli as ‘Kamini’ and tigress Rupa’s cub as ‘Himansi’. Both the cubs were born in March this year.
The Minister reviewed the functioning of the NZP and praised the zoo authorities for their performance. He termed the wildlife habitat as a ‘heaven’ for animals.
Sources said that Choubey assured the authorities of extending financial support to transform Nandankanan into a world-class zoo.
