As the new wage agreements for steel workers have been delayed for four years, it has stoked resentment among the Rourkela Steel Plant workers.
In support of the genuine rights of the steel workers, the Steel Employees Trade Union (affiliated body of CITU) staged a one-hour demonstration (8 am to 9 am) at Bisra Chowk on Tuesday.
The union pressed for a 7-point charter of demands, including wage revision. The major demand of the union is completion of the five years wage revision of workers soon as the workers are deprived of the new wage revision benefit since January 1, 2017.
Besides, the other demands are providing arrear, abolishing the gratuity ceiling provision, implementing pension scheme, suspending agreement between IGH and AMBRIT and lifting restriction on IGH medicine.
According to CITU secretary Basant Nayak due to inordinate delay in new wage revision the workers were not only losing money every month but also, were under stress.
