The Church of Christ (Union Church) has thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for sanctioning a grant of Rs one crore from the State’s Special Problem Fund for creating new amenities in the church premises.
“It is a very kind and noble gesture and the worshippers of the church are extremely thankful to the Chief Minister for his concern for the minority communities,” the church said in a statement on Wednesday.
The church, located on Lokseva Marg at Unit-4, is one of the oldest ones in Bhubaneswar. Worshipers have been attending the worship service here since 1964.
The Christian community is also grateful to the State Government for allocating land for construction of the church in 1960. The church, built by the worshippers themselves, is today regarded as one of the premier ones of the State, the release said. The CM’s sanctioned amount would go a long way in meeting the infrastructural needs of the church, which has an expanding congregation, it added.
