Uniform 'grammar' for Odishi music sought

The Utkal Sammilani has demanded adoption of a uniform ‘grammar’ for the Odishi music while holding the World Music Day here on Wednesday.

The Sammilani’s Mancheswar Industrial Branch president Dillip Dashsharma presiding over the meeting lamented that different gurus are teaching Odishi music in different ways due to absence of a uniform grammar and claiming their methods correct and others’ wrong. For this, Odishi gurus fail to maintain coordination among them.

“If different grammars are practised, Odishi music would lose its identity in coming days. Hence, the State Culture Department should arrange Odishi grammar and script in an order and try to introduce a uniform grammar,” demanded Dashsharma. While vice-president Sheetal Chandra Mohanty welcomed the guests, secretary Gobind Chandra Subuddhi proposed a vote of thanks.

Among others, joint secretaries Bibhuti Bhushan Swain and Ashok Kumar Palatasingh and council member Er Siba Prasad Mishra were present.
