Governor Dr SC Jamir released the Unicef’s annual flagship report ‘The State of the World’s Children 2016’ here on Tuesday. The report focused on attention on the issue of ‘Equity: A Fair Chance for Every Child.’

On the central theme of this year’s report, ‘A fair chance for every child,’ the Governor said a fair chance in life benefits children significantly and boosts social and economic capital.

He laid emphasis on directing all effort and resources to build an environment for children free from deprivation, discrimination and inequality and give them a fair chance in life.

Expressing serious concern over girls and women still constituting the majority of out-of-school children and illiterate adults, Jamir stressed the need to address both in-school and out-of-school factors.

Unicef Odisha chief Yumi Bae said, “We have a collective responsibility to accelerate the progress for the most disadvantaged, most vulnerable children. It requires identifying the most vulnerable and working together to tackle the multiple deprivations across sectors. We have a choice: Invest in these children now or allow our world to become still more unequal and divided.”
