A 28-year-old under-trial prisoner, who had been arrested in a theft case, was found dead in the toilet of a quarantine facility of the Sub-Jail at Ragadi in Jajpur district on Tuesday. He was allegedly suspected to have died by suicide.
SK Hanif Sheikh, a native of Murshidabad in West Bengal, had been arrested on June 13 and was in quarantine for a mandatory period. On Monday night, he allegedly hanged himself using a towel from the skylight of the toilet of the quarantine centre. The jail authorities rushed him to the Community Health Centre at Korei, where the doctor declared him dead.
A case in this regard has been registered in police station based on information provided by the jail authorities. Police seized the body and sent it for autopsy, said the Korei police station IIC Ranjit Mohanty.
