An undertrial prisoner died inside the Kandhamal district jail here on Sunday.
According to reports, the deceased Medina Kanhar (52) of Saitingia village under the Phiringia police station had been lodged at the jail since August last year on charges of murdering one Dhruba Kanhar. On Sunday, he was on his way to his cell carrying food when he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here, where the doctors declared him as ‘brought dead’.
“The cause of the death would be known after postmortem,” said IIC of Phulbani Town police station Ramakanta Sahu. Meanwhile, Medina’s family members have attributed his death to lack of proper medical treatment.
