An undertrial, Manoranjan Mirdha (22), housed in the Bargarh sub-jail on a murder charge, on Sunday managed to escape from the jail, informed jail authorities.

Mirdha, the main accused in a murder case in Ganjiatikra village under Khuntpali gram panchayat, had been in jail custody since September 9. On Sunday he broke open the gate of the watch tower and climbed up the tower. Thereafter, he jumped over the boundary wall which is close to the tower. He did it so quickly that the staffs present couldn’t prevent him. Further, they couldn’t chase him outside the jail as Mirdha ran very fast.

Jail Superintendent Sanjay Sharma soon informed the matter to the Bargarh police.

“Mirdha had been in Tamil Nadu for last 10 years. He came to his native place recently where he got involved in a murder case. He might have gone to his old workplace. Still we are searching for him using our best sources,” said IIC PC Pal.
