An under-trial prisoner lodged in the Baramba jail in Cuttack district died on Sundayreportedly after suffering from chest pain.
According to the police, Abhay Pradhan (45) complained of chest pain early in the morning, following which he was admitted to the Baramba hospital.
The doctor, however, suggested the jail authorities to shift him to the Athagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
Pradhan died while being taken to Athagarh. Doctors of the Athagarh hospital declared him dead on arrival.
Pradhan was a resident of Muliaba village under the Baramba police limits. He had been lodged in the jail after being accused in a dowry torture case.
