A Sarpanch and some social workers here have shown humanity when they cremated the body of a monk who had been living at Paramanandpur village of Katabahal gram panchayat in Gaisilat block of Bargarh district for last five years.
As the 80 years old monk died, there was none to turn up for his funeral rites. The Sarpanch immediately sent her husband, social worker Sushant Panda, to the spot.
Panda went to the native village (Jubakhol) of the deceased monk, but he didn't find any relative of the deceased monk. Later, he decided to perform the funeral work himself. After informing the Gaisilat police station and the BDO about the incident, with the help of Sankalap Family Bargarh and its three members namely Ratikanta Padhan, Suren Sahu and Dinabandhu Sahu, Panda cremated the body.
BDO Praveen Kumar Banua provided PPE kits to prevent any infections. The locals have praised the work.
