A lawyer was attacked by some miscreants at Jharigam village under Umarkote on Thursday on a flimsy issue.
Police identified him as Aruan Singh, a practicing lawyer of Umarkote Bar. While Singh was attending a tenth day ceremony of his relatives at Jharigam, there was an altercation with some miscreants present there. Irate over the issue, the miscreants attacked Singh brutally and inflicted injuries on him.
On being informed, police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the lawyer and arrested the miscreants. Condemning the incident, the Bar member called an emergency meet on Friday and protested against the assault.
Further, the Bar passed a resolution demanding fair probe into the incident by the police and stern action against the accused.
A copy of the resolution will be sent to all Bar associations of the erstwhile Koraput district and to the Bar council, said Umarkote Bar president Prasant Kumar Sahu.
