A teenage girl was allegedly molested by a lawyer at Jharigam village under the Umarkote area in Nabarangpur district.
The incident came to fore on Friday after the victim’s father lodged a complaint against Sanjay Nayak, a public notary, at the Jharigam police station. According to the complaint, Sanjay visited the victim’s house and finding her alone tried to touch her indecently several times and made some inappropriate gestures. After a few days, the victim told her parents about Nayak’s indecent behavior.
The police have registered a case under the Prevention of Child from Sexual Offence (Pocso) Act against Nayak.
Meanwhile, Nayak denied the allegations. Umarkote Bar president BK Sahu said the matter, if true, is a very shameful act. The Bar would conduct an inquiry and take necessary action, if a complaint is lodged before it. at would be taken after due enquiry if any complaint is made to the Bar in this regard.
