After a month of reading a book, a weeklong programme culminated at a two-day workshop at the Sai International School here.

The programme tested the student’s computer knowledge, while engaging them on the British Council online learning website. Besides, children’s creative writing skills and joy of writing through book reports, brochure designs about travel and their views on the earth in the year 3000 were examined. All the books were sent from the British Council library, Kolkata.

“Each book has been hand selected form our partner libraries in the UK making them unique to Indian audiences,” said Manager Young Audiences,

British Council Aparna Bhattacharya. Certificates were distributed by Bhattacharya during a two- hour ceremony. Children showed off their reading skills and made to feel special. Parents clapped and smiled, while each child was called in to the stage and given a certificate. High achievers in the programme were given medals that showcased their hard work and determination.

Chairman of the school Bijoy K Sahoo said the programme truly incorporates SAI International School’s holistic parenting principles as parental involvement and support were seen every step of the way.

Not only did the parents have to see the benefit of the programme and register their child, they also had to help and remind them to read or in the case of the KGII and Class I, students read the books with them.
