Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police YB Khuraniaon Sunday said the gang of five dacoits, who looted Rs13 lakh and gold ornaments from the UCO Bank’s Bapuji Nagar branch here last week, are most wanted in five eastern States of the country.
“We have got substantial lead in the UCO Bank loot case. Barring Odisha, where they are wanted in seven cases, the dacoit gang is involved in more than 20 bank loots in Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand,” said Khurania. He, however, did not reveal anything more about the gang, saying the investigation has reached a crucial stage.
On Wednesday, five armed miscreants had looted over Rs13 lakh and one kg gold ornaments from the UCO Bank Bapuji Nagar branch in the morning just a few minutes after the bank opened for operation.
The five looters after taking the bank staffs and customers under their control, managed to get the money from the locker.
