The Utkal Chemists’ and Druggists’ Association (UCDA) at a Press meet here on Wednesday opposed online distribution of medicines. The association said the process does not fulfil the legal parameters.

The chemists and druggists sell the medicines to the patients or their attendants under their personal supervision which is not possible online. Besides, for NRX medicines there are number of legal procures which cannot be met online. Anybody can Xerox the prescriptions of the doctor and can misutilise it, the association said.

The association said it is not possible to deliver medicines in time in rural areas through online. The unsold medicines are returned by the shop keepers but is it possible online, the association members questioned. The medicines stored in the refrigerators quality is a big question.

The association welcomed the online registration and renewal of drug licence and said it is making every effort for the welfare and development of 17,000 members. UCDA president P Satyanaryana , treasurer Debadata Das and general secretary Prasanta Kumar Jena were and many other association members were present.
