A memorial meeting was organized by Utkal Sammilani on the occasion of the twelfth death anniversary of Amarendra Das on Sunday.
On behalf of the Central Committee of Utkal Sammilani, the meeting was held which was presided over by president of the Central Committee Basant Kumar Tripathi and attended by general secretary Dr Radhanath Praharaj and several members.
The meeting began with mourning the death of Utkal Sammilani lifelong member and former MLA Bikram Keshari Burma and renowned international film awardee actor Atal Bihari Panda. Participating in the event, members recalled the qualities of Amarendra Kumar Das and his wife Dr Suprabha Das and their contributions.
They said the duo did a lot to provide social services and education to the people of Gandbed village in Baleshwar district . Due to Das's deep affection for his State, mother tongue and culture , he was involved in the Utkal Conference for three decades, serving as the general secretary and executive member of the Central Committee until his death.
His contribution to the organisation of the Odia diaspora in the neighboring State was noteworthy, they said.
Dr Gaurang Prasad Behera , Prof Dr Kashinath Rath , lawyer Gajanan Mishra , lawyer Tapas Mishra , Girija Shankar Mohapatra , Trinath Samantaraiah , Pathani Jena , Shiv Narayan Mishra , Yugal Kishore Nayak, among others, attended the event. Jitendra Kumar Padhi offered a vote of thanks.
