The Utkal Sammilani has expressed deep resentment over nonuse of Odia language in the Bills that have been presented and passed in the State Assembly. “Odisha was formed on linguistic basis before the Independence and the Odia language has already been accorded classical status. But it is disappointing that Bills are not being written in Odia script,” lamented Sammilani Mancheswar Industrial Estate branch president Dillip Dashsharama in a statement.
Dashsharma said the issue of using Odia in the Bills needs to be debated in the State Assembly. “There is law for use of Odia script. If anybody thinks that there is no law then let it (law) be enacted during the current session of the Assembly. As all members of the House are Odias, nobody will oppose it,” argued Dashsharma.
He said people would easily understand things if names of offices, schemes and other systems are written in Odia.“If chit fund was written as ‘Thaka Jama’ (cheat deposit), people would not have been cheated,” he pointed out. He demanded that the existing language law for scripting of Bills be implemented and if there is any problem that be resolved soon.
