The Vigilance police on Sunday caught Limaraj Pradhan, Additional Inspector In-charge (IIC) of Umarkote police station in Nabarangpur district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person.
Pradhan had demanded the bribe from the complainant not to take any action against him in a family dispute case. After the complainant informed the Vigilance about the matter, the anti-graft wing laid a trap.
The accused asked the complainant to come to Umarkote police station after 10 pm. However, he came outside to a lonely place to collect the bribe to avoid the CCTV cameras. But after seeing a Vigilance team after collecting the money, he tried to flee from the spot. He was chased and later apprehended, said Vigilance sources.
