The Paradip police on Wednesday arrested two members of an inter-State looter gang from here and seized six gold chains, four bikes and an Indigo car from their possession. The miscreants were identified as Jyotiranjan Das alias Jitu and Jaydev Biswal alias Bubu of the port town, said the police.

According to reports, Jitu and Bubu had hired a car from Atharbanki taxi stand in Paradip on December 29 last to go to Nuagaon village under Patkura police limits in Kendrapada district. On way to the village, the duo attacked the driver at a remote place and made off with the vehicle.

Car owner Chittaranjan Palai immediately went to the Patkura police station to lodge a complaint, but the police officials refused to accept the FIR on the pretext that the incident did not occur under their jurisdiction and advised him to go to the Paradip police station. Then Palai went to lodge a complaint with the Paradip police, but there also he got no support.

Finally, Palai forwarded a copy of the FIR to the DGP and the Kendrapada SP requesting them to take appropriate action in the case. A few days later, Jagatsinghpur SP directed the Paradip IIC to probe the matter. The IIC began his investigation on January 7 and was successful in recovering the car after arresting the vehicle lifters from Tirtol area. The Paradip police revealed that the duo was involved in nine loot cases under their jurisdiction earlier.
