The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) on Wednesday sealed the unit of Bhusan Energy ltd (BEl) which was polluting water and air of the nearby plant in Narendrapur of Dhenkanal district.
In the presence of Sub-collector, SDPO and one platoon police force, the Regional Officer of the pollution control board started the sealing process of the plant.
The closure order was issued on Monday by the board for shutting down its 300 MW power plant in the district as the company failed to abide by the laws to check water and air pollution. A joint team of board officials, revenue and police officers paid a visit to the plant to enforce the order and on Wednesday two units were sealed, official sources said.
“According to the order of the OSPCB, we have sealed the BEl’s two units for violating the pollution norms under Section 31A of Air (prevention and control of pollution) Act, 1981 and Section 33A of Water (prevention and control of pollution) Act, 1974,” said Dhenkanal Sub-Collector Anil Kumar Patnaik.
The local villagers had also alleged that the company has polluted Kisinda nullah as it is discharging waste water directly without treatment.
The authorities cracked the whip after receiving allegations that the BEl, a concern of Bhusan Steel limited (BSl), has been violating most of the 15 stipulated guidelines in the last one-and-a-half years, while overlooking the orders of the board.
