The Bhubaneswar Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday arrested two train ticket examiners (TTEs) for physically assaulting two passengers resulting in head injury of one of them here at the Bhubaneswar railway station.  Dibakar Biswal and Kamal lochan Mishra of the Chief Commercial Manager’s (CCM) squad of the East Coast Railways (ECoR) were forwarded to court.

Quoting the FIR filed by the two passengers, identified as Prabhod Mohapatra and Suvendu Biswal, students of the Utkal University here, GRP IIC Soubhagya Swain said while on duty in the Bhubaneswar main station platform, the TTEs found a man loitering without ticket and asked him to pay fine. After he expressed his willingness, the ticket examiners forcibly took away his mobile phone.

On seeing this, Suvendu who along with his friend Prabodh was coming in the Puri-Cuttack passenger train that had halted at the station, protested the behavior of the TTEs. Furious over it, both the TTEs soon started manhandling Suvendu and assaulted him.

“I and my friend Prabhod were to get down at Vani Vihar station. As our train had stopped at the Bhubaneswar station, I got down from it and saw the TTEs misbehaving with a man. When I opposed, they manhandled and beat me and asked me to show my ticket. On explaining that my ticket was with my friend who was inside the train, they even did not spare me,” said Suvendu, adding that Prabodh fell down on the platform while rushing towards him seeing him being attacked by the TTEs. Prabodh sustained head injury while he slipped, Suvendu told.
