Two persons were killed in an elephant attack at Suleipal village under the Rengali police station in Angul district on Thursday. The body of one victim was spotted in a forest near the village on Friday morning. The other person died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Talcher on Friday.

Both were farmers and identified as Sudhakar Mohanty (70) and Deba Samal (56).

The tragedy struck the two when they had gone to a nearby field for farming purpose. The elephant suddenly appeared on the scene and attacked them. Deba Samal was rushed to a hospital at Mandapal in Talcher, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Later forest officials, who reached the spot to take stock of the situation, said the elephant might have entered into the forest near the village from another area recently since there were no elephants found in the forest before.
