With the election code of conduct coming into force, the district administration here briefed the media about the preparations for the elections in the district and make it transparent.

It also sought cooperation of the people as well as the media for free and fair election. However, the district administration brought before media as to a new fact called ‘Expenditure Sensitive Constituency (ESC).’

Out of the total four constituencies of the district, two constituencies –Rengali and Sambalpur have been declared as Expenditure Sensitive Constituency, informed the ADM of Sambalpur Ajay Kumar Jena.

ESC is earmarked on the basis of the past election record. If 90 per cent polling is made in a booth and 75 per cent of the vote polled goes to the winning candidate, then the booth is treated as ESC, informed Jena.

The ADM and other officers including the Additional SP PK Mohapatra narrated in details the arrangements made in the district for the ensuing elections. Any violation of the code of conduction by political parties and candidates in particular will be viewed seriously and action as per the law will also be taken, the officials made clear.
