Keeping in view the rising number of vehicles and road users in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police have decided to set up two more traffic police station in the twin city to deal with the situation.
Inaugurating the Road Safety Week observance at the Traffic police station near AG Square, Commissioner of Police Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma said while one traffic police station would come up at Buxibazaar in Cuttack, another would be set up either at Khandagiri, Patia or at Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar.
“A proposal has been mooted for setting up of two more traffic police stations in order to improve the traffic management system. Since the Khandagiri, Patia and Chandrasekharpur areas are witnessing rapid growth in number of vehicles plying on the roads, it has become necessary for traffic police stations to streamline the system,” said Sharma.
Dr Sharma said as many as 170 personnel would be engaged at these two police stations. Currently, both general and traffic police stations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are running with lack of strength.
Attending the event, Culture Minister Ashok Panda advised youths to refrain themselves from reckless driving.
“They (youths) who are driving so fast should keep in mind that their family members are waiting for their safe return to home. Keeping this in mind, they should drive carefully as it will help ensure a safe road journey for all,” said Panda.
Currently, there are two traffic police stations operating in Bhubaneswar and one in Cuttack. While 22 general police stations are functioning in Bhubaneswar, 21 are operating in Cuttack urban police district.
