Two more poll petitions filed in HC

Two more election petitions were filed in the Orissa High Court on Wednesday in which the petitioners have challenged the elections of the Cuttack-Barabati and Soro MLAs urging the court to declare the recent election results of these two Assembly segments as “null and void”.

The petitions have, however, not been taken into cognizance by the court yet.

Former MLA and BJD leader Debashis Samantray in his petition has claimed that Cuttack-Barabati MLA Md Moqim of the Congress had submitted a false affidavit along with his nomination papers during the elections.

The petitioner has maintained that Moqim’s affidavits lack clarity and are incomplete.

Similarly, Remuna BJP leader Gobind Chandra Das, who lost to Sudhansu Sekhar Parida of BJD by a margin of a little over 4,000 votes, has challenged the election of the latter claiming that Parida too had concealed vital information in his affidavit.

Urging the court to quash Parida’s election, Das has claimed that the BJD leader has given a false affidavit pertaining to his assets.
