Police on Friday night, after an exchange of fire at Ankuli Jaleswarkhandi road under the Gosasainnnugao police station, nabbed two notorious criminals. This was the third encounter with criminals in Ganjam district in the last three days.
The arrested were Munna Sahu (27) of lochapada Bada Sahi under Sadar PS and his associate Radhakrushna Sahu (22) of Panigrahipentha of Badabazar in the city.
The police have recovered a Bajaj Pulsar 220 motorcycle, a country-made pistol, four rounds of live ammunitions and three live crude bombs from their possession. However, one of their associates managed to escape from the spot.
It might be mentioned here that the trio were allegedly involved in the broad daylight bombing on a foreign liquor shop at Goods Road in the city on Friday afternoon.
The police after the bombing incident had formed teams to nab the accused. However, on a tipoff, the police intercepted them at Ankuli Jaleswarkhandi road at midnight. The criminals on seeing the police fired at them to escape from the spot. In the retaliatory fire Munna and Radha sustained bullet injuries on their legs and rushed to the hospital, said Brahmapur Town SDPO.
The police have of late adopted a bullet-for-bullet policy to tame the criminals who have spread a reign of terror in the city and in Ganjam district.
