Two more cases were filed against arrested former Sanakhemundi Congress MlA Ramesh Jena at different police stations here on Saturday.
While one case was lodged at the BNPur police station for his alleged involvement in a murder case, the other was filed at the Brahmapur Town police station for his alleged involvement in an attempt-to-murder case.
Brahmapur SP Sarthak Sarangi had on Friday evening hinted that police might seek extension of Jena’s remand after the current five-day remand comes to an end on Sunday.
“More and more people are coming forward to lodge complaints against him. All these allegations need to be interrogated. Besides, we are investigating the financial angle of the case. We may seek an extension of Jena’s remand if needed,” Sarangi told reporters.
He also stated that investigations are being conducted on the land transactions allegedly made by Jena in the Brahmapur, Kukudakhandi and Nimakhandi areas
Similarly, Southern Range IG Amitabh Thakur had on Friday said that the cops had found links of Jena with the Green India Private limited, a chit fund firm which has allegedly duped people crores of rupees.
Besides, the police had seized a bullet proof Toyota lexus car, which costs around Rs 1.35 crore, belonging to Jena. The IG said police would seek support from the CBI which is probing chit fund scams in the State.
Interestingly, a large number of people rushed to the BNPur police station to have a glimpse of the luxurious car.
In yet another development on Friday, the SDJM Court here rejected bail petition of the former MlA’s father Arakshita Jena as the CD could not reach the court on time, sources said. The next hearing was posted to Monday.
