Two minor girls drowned while taking bath in a pond near Bagachara under the Basta police limits in Baleswar district on Sunday noon.
The deceased were identified as Mama Jena (6) and her cousin Anita Parmanik (8). Mama, a resident of
Alumeda village under the Singala police station, was visiting her uncle’s village during the summer vacation to attend a wedding. She and Anita had gone to bathe in the nearby pond.
According to reports, there was no one around to save the girls from the tragedy.
When they did not return, family members carried out a search to find them. Later, the girls’ bodies were fished out of the pond.
