Two Maoists on Saturday surrendered before south-western police range DIG Debadatta Singh here.
Udunu Huluka (47) and Dumri Huluka (35) of Basnaput village under Narayanpatna police station were active members of the Srikakulam-Koraput Joint Divisional Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoists). Udunu was the area leader for Basnaput Maoists.
“They were involved in various killings, blasting of mobile towers, looting and arson of villagers and other such extremist activities.
They were providing leadership for Ghenua Bahini, a mass organisation of the ultras that forcibly recruits cadres from villages,” said Singh, adding that all the benefits under the Government's surrender policy would be extended to the duo for their rehabilitation.
Singh informed that duo was involved in a series of heinous murders including Nityananda Meleka of Gotiguda in 2009, Ghasi Kendruka of Dumshil, Sikunu Meleka of Tentulipadar in 2010, Sapura Sirika of Jhodipadar and Dali Habika of Pilbore in 2011 and Bidyut Bisoyi of Narayanpatna in 2012.
